History of the Hunt

Start Year: 0
End Year: N/A
History: The country was hunted for many years by the late J C Buckland as a Harrier country (since 1873), hunting fox whenever they found one. In 1922-23 the pack was officially recognized by the MFHA as the Ashford Valley Foxhounds, under the Mastership of J C Buckland. The kennels were moved from his home, Goldwell, Great Chart, first to that of Lt Col Hessey at Brissenden, Bethersden, then in 1948 to Cowlees, Hothfield, the home of A Chester Beatty, jun. New kennels were built in 1953 at The Forest, Hothfield.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country is a mixture of arable, grass and woodland, and offers a great variety of fences including timber, hedges, ditches and dykes, but it is always possible for non-jumpers to negotiate the country. The ideal horse is a half to three quarter bred, capable of handling trappy situations. Visitors are made welcome. Adjoining Hunts: the West Kent to the north west; the West Street Tickham to the north; the East Kent to the east; the East Sussex & Romney Marsh to the south; and the Southdown & Eridge to the west.
