History of the Hunt

History:	There is good reason to believe that these hounds were originally started about the end of the 17th century at Barlow, to hunt fox and hare as they have done until Major W Wilson decided to hunt fox only in 1907. Until 1851 they were managed and hunted by yeoman farmers. The hounds were trencher fed until Wm Wilson took over the Mastership and rebuilt the kennels in 1878. Miss Elsie Wilson died in 1988 leaving the hounds and her estate to a Committee. Miss Anne Wilson, the final link with the Wilson dynasty, died in office as Master in 2009.

The country lies mainly in north-east Derbyshire but includes small portions of Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. It is comprised of small mixed and dairy farms, and provides a variety of natural obstacles including dry stone walls.
