History of the Hunt

History:	The pack is also known as the John Peel Foxhounds and many of the pack trace their pedigree back to his hounds. The Crozier family had a pack of hounds at Threlkeld: John Crozier took over the pack from his father in 1840. After John Peel died, Mr Crozier is believed to have acquired a few of his hounds. Mr Crozier maintained the pack at his own expense until 1870 when the Blencathra Foxhounds were formed as a subscription pack. The name is taken from the fell which stands to the north of the A66 near Keswick. From the time of the Crozier family, there have been only seven huntsmen: Joshua Fearon; Isaac Todhunter (25 years); John Porter (26 years), Jim Dalton (36 years); Geordie Bell (24 years); Johnny Richardson (1949-88); and Barry Todhunter.

The country (hunted on foot), which lies in Cumbria, in the heart of the Lake District, adjoins on the north the Cumberland Farmers Hunt; on the west the Melbreak, on the north west the Cumberland Hunt, and on the south east the Ullswater. Best centre: Keswick.
