History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1869
End Year: N/A
History: The Hunt is of very old standing. For more than 130 years, as far back as records go, the Hunt enjoyed a long family connection. Hounds belonged to the Robson and the Dodd families during that period. In 1951 Jacob Robson resigned the Mastership and handed over the pack to a committee.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country is nearly all hill and open moorland astride the Scottish/English border. It is mostly heather and white grass, with in-bye around Otterburn and Bellingham. It is good open galloping country with few jumps but plenty of drains. A blood horse of 16 hands or a three-quarter bred with good feet is needed, with a mind that can read soft going and the stamina to climb the hills and cover the country. Adjacent Hunts are the North Tyne, Haydon, Tynedale, Morpeth, College Valley/North Northumberland, West Percy, Liddesdale, Jedforest, and the Duke of Buccleuchs.
