History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1871
End Year: N/A
History: The Burton Hunt is one of the oldest packs of foxhounds. The country was being hunted in 1672 by John Monson of Burton by Lincoln, and formerly included the country now hunted by the Blankney. The country, as constituted, dates from 1871, when the Old Burton country was divided into the Burton (North) and Blankney (South). A History of the Burton Hunt by Robert Fountain was published in March 1996

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country, which lies in the northern half of Lincolnshire, is some 22 miles east to west and 16 miles north to south. The terrain is food-quality arable land and a few grass fields. Obstacles are ditches and dykes, and hunt jumps. Adjacent hunts are the Brocklesby to the north; on the west the Grove & Rufford; the Blankney to the south, and on the east the South Wold. Best centres: Lincoln, whence also meets of the Blankney; Gainsborough, on the borders of the Grove & Rufford; and Market Rasen, on the Brocklesby border, whence also meets of the South Wold and Brocklesby.
