History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1722
End Year: N/A
History: Prior to 1827 this pack was known as the Roxby and Cleveland. "Tommy Page", called the father of the Roxby and Cleveland Hunt, was Master at the end of the 18th century. Until 1871 the hounds were trencher fed. See The Cleveland as a Trencher-fed Pack by Sir A E Pease, Bart (Longmans, Green & Co, 1887). On their retirement in 1943, the Joint Masters, Mrs M W Ringrose-Wharton and Capt Ringrose-Wharton gave the hounds to the country. The Hunt Club, established on November 13th, 1722, is the oldest in the country.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country, which covers some 25 miles by 15 miles, lies in Cleveland and North Yorkshire. It varies from vale to high moorland and encompasses the highest cliffs in England. Best centres: Saltburn, Stokesley and Guisborough.
