History of the Hunt

History:	The County Longford Hunt dates from 1860. Prior to 1860, Col Lefroy, DL, Darrigglas Manor, Co Longford supplied the Hunt Club with deer from his park when there were staghounds in the county. Towards the end of the 19th century the hunt changed to harriers as the larger county estates were sub-divided into freeholds. Hare and the occasional fox are now hunted.

The country runs from Granard in the north to Lanesborough in the south over old permanent pastures enclosed by walls, ditches and banks. It is a very varied country. Adjacent packs are the Ballymacad and Westmeath Foxhounds, and the Fermanagh and South Westmeath Harriers. Best centres: Granard and Ballymahon.
