Other Notes: Hounds have been kennelled at Badminton since 1640 but the pedigree records have only been kept up since the mid 1700's. The furthest back an individual hound can be traced generation for generation is 1743, which is approximately 59 generations.

History of the Hunt

History: The hounds have never been out of the family since their establishment, the Mastership always having been held by the Dukes of Beaufort, save in 1896-97, when Mr Wemyss was Joint Master. In 1888 the 8th Duke lent the southern portion of his country for a term of years to Capt Spicer, who hunted it with the Dukes hounds until 1895. In 1895 the same tract was lent to Brig Gen G Ll Palmer, who succeeded Capt Spicer and with his own hounds hunted this southern section as the Avon Vale (see Bailys Hunting Directory, 1898-99). In 1899 this territory was resumed, and was lent by the Duke from 1905 to 1910 to Mr Nell. For the 1912-13 season the country was again divided and the Avon Vale carried on as formerly.
