History of the Hunt

History: The Hunt was established in 1873 by William Coryton of Pentillie who hunted and kennelled the hounds for 15 seasons. Both East and North Cornwall countries were hunted as one for two seasons from 1897-1899 with Mr D Horndon as Master. (See Bailys 1898-99.) Since 1899 the East Cornwall has enjoyed many successful seasons under various Masters, the longest serving being Mr Bevil Bunt who carried the horn for 21 seasons (1976-1997). On 1st May 1997 the old East Cornwall hunt amalgamated with the Bolventor Harriers who hunted the East Cornwall country, taking the green livery of the Bolventor Harriers with the East Cornwall buttons.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country lies in the south east corner of Cornwall, taking in a large part of Bodmin Moor to the north and some excellent farmland, mainly grass, to the south. It is within easy reach of Plymouth and Bodmin, with the best areas being Alturnun, Jamaica Inn and Lords Waste.
