History of the Hunt

History:	The Hunt was formed in 1966, being an amalgamation of the East Sussex and Romney Marsh Hunts. The Romney Marsh became a recognized pack of Foxhounds in 1956, having been founded as Harriers in 1858. The East Sussex dates from 1853. During Sir Augustus Websters Mastership the kennels were at Marley Farm, Battle; in Mr Curteis time at Windmill Hill Place and Peasmarsh Place for alternate fortnights; in Mr Lywoods time at Black Friars Farm, Battle; and from 1870 at North Trade, Battle. The 1st Earl Brassey built the present kennels at Catsfield, which since 1989 have been the property of the Committee. Hunt Country:

The country is in East Sussex and Kent and extends some 45 miles from east to west by 15 miles north to south. An extensive hunt jump-building project was undertaken during the summer of 1994. Best centres: South Downs, Romney Marsh and Pevensey Marsh. Adjoining Hunts: to the west and north the Southdown & Eridge; to the north the Ashford Valley; to the east the East Kent; to the south lies the sea.
