History of the Hunt

History:	The pack was officially started in 1857, by Richard Henry Carter, who was Master from 1857 to 1860. It was amalgamated with the Oppidan pack in 1867. Hunting continued until 1917 when the pack was temporarily disbanded, but was re-formed at the end of the war. After some difficulties had been overcome, hounds continued until the outbreak of the second world war, when the pack had to be drastically reduced. Hounds hunted, however, two days a week throughout the war with a small pack showing fair sport. Since the war the pack has been enlarged and very much improved. Due to the Thames Flood Relief Scheme, the old kennels that were built in 1899 have been knocked down. New kennels were built nearby on the new Wallace Walk, and were officially opened at the Puppy Show in May 1997 by Senior Trustee and former Master, the late Captain R E Wallace.
