History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1700
End Year: N/A
History: The Hunt existed before 1760, to which date the existing pedigree book goes back. The earlier pedigree book was burned in a fire which years ago destroyed a portion of the Kennels. Though the Mastership has been held pro tem by others than members of the family, the hounds have never since their establishment passed out of the possession of the owner of the Fitzwilliam property.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country, which is mostly arable, lies from Stamford in the north to St Ives in the south, and from Higham Ferrers in the west out onto the Fens towards Wisbech in the east. Comprising 10% grass and 20% woodland, it is cold scenting country which nonetheless provides excellent hound work in far from easy conditions, with new roads becoming numerous. Best centres: Milton, Stamford, Gidding, Titchmarsh and Raunds.
