History of the Hunt

History:	The Hunt dates from about 1810. The country, as now constituted, has existed since 1826. Before 1824, the pack was known as the Mathon and Colwall. J F Giles hunted the country at his own expense till 1846, when J C Thackwell and R Peyton joined him for a few months. Before the end of that season Mr Giles was again sole Master, but with a guarantee. During the season 1905-06, C W Bell hunted the southern portion, J H Curre the northern. W Gordon Canning hunted a tract lent by the Ledbury from 1907 till 1910 (see Gordon Cannings in Bailys of 1909-10 and earlier). Sir George Bulloughs pack (see Former Masters, below) consisted mainly of hounds bought at Frank Bibbys sale in 1909.

Hunt Country:

The country lies in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, and covers about 35 miles north to south and 16 miles east to west. The Monday country is mixed farms and woodland; the Friday country is dominated by the vale hedges, hunt rails and natural country divided by the Malvern hills. Best centres: Ledbury, Malvern, Gloucester and Tewkesbury. Adjoining Hunts: to the northwest the North Herefordshire and the North Ledbury; to the northeast the Croome & West Warwickshire; to the east the Cotswold Vale Farmers; and to the south the Berkeley.
