History of the Hunt

History:	The Hunt was formed in 1980, as a Harrier pack, with Mr Eric Elliot as founder Master to hunt the old Dove Valley Harrier country. In 1987 the country was extended into Cheshire by loan of an area from the Cheshire Foxhounds. In 1993 the Hunt became a private pack with Mr E A Upton as sole Master and changed to Foxhounds. Name changed from Staffordshire Moorland to Moorlands in 2014

Hunt Country:

The country is mixed, mainly moorland and high grassland with stone walls and with timber and hedges in the lower parts of the country. It lies north of the River Churnet and is bordered on the north east by the River Dove extending northwards to the B5470 by invitation. Adjoining hunts: the Meynell & South Staffs; North Staffordshire, Cheshire Forest, and the High Peak Harriers. Best centres: Leek, Longnor and Cauldon.
