History of the Hunt

History:	The Hunt dates from the year 1830, and has existed since that time as now constituted. Prior to 1830 the countries now hunted by the VWH and the Old Berkshire were one, and as such appear to date as far back as 1760. See A History of the Old Berks Hunt, 1760-1904 by F C Loder-Symonds and E Percy Crowdy (Vinton & Co, Ltd, 1905).

Hunt Country:

The country, which extends some 16 miles north to south and 25 miles east to west, lies in Oxfordshire. It is vale country, with arable and grassland and plenty of set-aside. Obstacles are mainly hunt jumps, hedges and ditches. Best centres: Faringdon, whence also meets of the VWH can be reached; Abingdon, on the borders of the Vale of Aylesbury with Garth & South Berks, and Wantage near the Vine & Craven border.
