History of the Hunt

History:	Established 1924. Recognized 1925. Hounds went out 80 times last season. In 2004, Gerald Keal (Huntsman 1994-2013) picked up 2 bitches that were drafted from the Vale of the White Horse (VWH) Hunt These bitches carried the female tail line of Old Dominion ‘Gorgeous’ who had been bred out of the ODH kennel. The Hunt name changed from “Mr. Larrabee’s Hounds” in 1924 to “Old Dominion Hounds” in 1931 as a means of increasing subscribership.

The Country actively hunted is approximately 100 square miles of rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties, mostly pasture with large woodlands, extensively panelled with coops, some natural rail fences and stone walls.
