History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1698
End Year: N/A
History: The hounds have belonged to the country since Mr Couplands Mastership. There is no doubt that Hugo Meynell was the first Master of the Quorn; but Thomas Boothby, of Tooley Park, Leicestershire, hunted what was said to have been "the first pack of foxhounds then in England" over part of the present Quorn country or an area of which the present country formed part. About 1855 the Committee lent a tract first to John Story, and afterwards, in 1876, to Earl Ferrers, who hunted it till 1887, when the Committee found themselves obliged to recall the loan. See The Quorn and its Masters, by W C A Blew (J C Nimmo, 1898).

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country, which lies in Leicestershire, with a few coverts in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, extends some 28 miles east to west by about 20 miles north to south. Best centres: Melton Mowbray, Leicester, and Loughborough in the heart of the country. Adjoining Hunts: to the northwest, the Meynell & South Staffs; to the north the South Notts; to the northeast the Belvoir; to the southeast the Cottesmore; to the south the Fernie; and to the southwest the Atherstone.
