History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1800
End Year: N/A
History: The Hunt was founded in about 1800 from an amalgamation of the Antrim and Doagh packs, owing its origin to the Earl of Antrim who had some years before formed the Antrim Hunt. Ownership of the hounds subsequently passed to the Macnaughton family of Bushmills. The kennels were at Dunluce for most of the last century. In 2001 the hunt became a company limited by guarantee.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country is in north Londonderry and north Antrim with fields which are mostly small, with some difficult ditches, stone walls, and banks covered with thorn hedges. Wire is on the increase with some sheep fencing over which hunt fences have been built. Adjoining Hunts are the Mid-Antrim to the south-east, and South Tyrone to the south-west. There is an occasional joint meet with the Mid-Antrim. Lately the Hunt has been enjoying a resurgence with improved and opening country thanks to goodwill from key farmers.
