History of the Hunt

History:	The Hunt dates from 1869 before which the North and South Herefordshire were a unified Hunt. The most notable Mastership was that of Mrs Simmons, 1931-51 and again from 1956-61. However, Mr & Mrs Gordon Jones 11 seasons, 1983-94, proved to be a very successful period. Hunt in abeyance for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons Suspended by MFHA then totally disbanded during 2019

Hunt Country

Hunt Country:

The majority of the country lies to the south and west of the river Wye, near to that river. The country south of Wormelow was opened up in 2001. There is a considerable proportion of arable but farther afield there is a good deal of grass. However, a number of wooded ridges now support large commercial shoots. Nevertheless, hounds enjoy good sport and on most days the field are able to cross country, provided they are mounted on a bold jumper (ideally a quarter- or half-bred) who can negotiate a series of differing obstacles, such as stout timber post-and-rails, tiger traps and hedges. There has been much refurbishment to the kennels and stables. Visitors are warmly welcomed. Adjacent Hunts: the Golden Valley, North Herefordshire, Radnor & West Herefordshire and the Monmouthshire. Best centres: Harewood End, Hoarwithy, Orcrop and Michaelchurch.
