History of the Hunt

History: During 1898-1902 most of the country was hunted, together with the Wheatland, by J C Dun Waters, who in 1902 took it over in its entirety, with the exception of one portion, which is still lent to the North Shropshire. Prior to Mr Dun Waters, the last Master of the South Shropshire proper was Mr Hulton Harrop.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country is very variable: there are hills and vales, plough, grass, moorland, and forestry. Obstacles are hunt jumps with the occasional hedge; there is some wire. A good horse with a bit of blood is needed to get up the hills, but not too fine-boned to cope with the rough going. It is poor scenting country. Adjoining Hunts: to the south and south west the United; to the west the Tanatside; to the north west Sir Watkin Williams-Wynns; to the north and north east the North Shropshire; to the east the Wheatland. Best centres: Church Stretton on the United border, and Pontesbury.
