History:	The Hunt was formed by the amalgamation of the Southdown and Eridge Hunts on 1st May, 1981. For information regarding history of both Hunts, prior to 1981-82, see 1980-81 edition of Baily's.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country:

The country lies between the Cuckmere River to the east and the Adur to the west. The northern boundary is Henfield, Hickstead and the A272. From Maresfield, the country extends north and east to Ashdown Forest, Withyham, Tunbridge Wells, and Hurst Green. The terrain is strongly-fenced vale, wooded weald, and open downland (the South Downs). Best centres: Lewes, Chailey, Albourne, Hadlow Down and Mark Cross. Adjoining Hunts: to the west the Crawley & Horsham; to the north Old Surrey, Burstow & West Kent; to the north-east Ashford Valley; to the south-east East Sussex & Romney Marsh; to the south lies the sea.
