History of the Hunt

History:	In 2011/2012 season the Stoke Hill amalgamated with the North Dartmoor Beagles but the history of the Stoke Hill pack is included here for the purposes of clarity The Stoke Hill pack was started by the late Archie Pape in March 1912, when the Silverton Harriers, of which he was Master, started to hunt only fox. He kept the hounds with the Silverton till 1927, after which Mrs Pape carried on for three seasons. The pack was then dispersed, but Dr R N Craig purchased some of the old pack and carried on until 1945, by which time he was also Master of the East Devon. The pack was again dispersed, but was reformed in 1952, and has been uninterrupted since.

Hunt Country:

Hunting (on foot) is in mixed country which now extends from Starcross in the south to Bampton in the north, and from Crediton in the west nearly to Axminster in the east (by permission of the Cotley Harriers). The country is centred on Exeter. The revised country is the result of a review of Beagle hunt boundaries conducted when the Holcombe Rogus Beagles disbanded in 2001.
