History of the Hunt

History: The United Pack is descended from a trencher-fed pack, which was assembled about the year 1837 by Mr Gittoes. In 1927 R E Plowden (Master, 1922-27) presented hounds to the country. The original pack was put down during the War, but the Hunt was restarted with draft hounds.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country lies in south west Shropshire on the Welsh borders and is typical of the borders stock rearing area. It is a varied country ranging from open hill and moorland to quite large areas of forestry to enclosed pastures. The main obstacles encountered are hunt jumps, with the occasional hedge. There is a continuing programme of jump building to make the country more accessible. The ideal type of horse is a half- to three-quarter bred which has the stamina for the hills as well as speed for the lower parts of the country. Adjacent packs are the David Davies to the west, Tanatside to the north; South Shropshire and Wheatland to the east; and Ludlow and Teme Valley to the south.
