History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1534
End Year: N/A
History: The Hunt dates from 1534; the country as now constituted has existed since 1892. That part of the country adjacent to Downham Market was lent to A E H Birch in 1896. His pack, formerly the Downham Harriers, and later the Downham Foxhounds, was disbanded in 1934 when the country reverted to the West Norfolk.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country, which covers an area of some 35 miles by 25 miles, lies in Norfolk. The Wednesday and Saturday countries, around Dereham and Fakenham is lightly wooded with some plough and ditches, some Hunt jumps. The Monday country, around Kings Lynn, Narborough and Swaffham, is lighter going, with more grass, forest, and some timber hunt jumps. Best centres: Dereham, Swaffham and Fakenham.
