History of the Hunt

Start Year: 1932
End Year: N/A
History: Hounds were originally the Walhampton Bassets, hunted in the New Forest until Godfrey Heseltine moved to Lutterworth in 1920. In 1932 the rump of the pack was purchased by Dr Eric Morrison who renamed the pack the Westerby Basset Hounds Dr Morrison experimented with various outcrosses before and after the war, ultimately having the most success with a stud book harrier in 1950 from which the present pack is descended, thus establishing the so-called English Basset. Since then there have been further infusions of pure basset, harrier and West Country harrier blood.

Hunt Country

Hunt Country: The country lies in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Rutland. It comprises the whole of the Fernie, and parts of the Atherstone, Cottesmore and Pytchley Hunt countries. It runs from Melton Mowbray in the north to Daventry in the south; from Nuneaton in the west to Uppingham in the east.
