History of the Hunt

History:	The Wye College Beagles were formed in 1947 and were hunted for the 1947-48 season in amalgamation with Sir Newton Rycroft�s Dummer Beagles as the Wye College and Dummer Beagles. The Principal of Wye College, D Skilbeck, was Hunt Chairman from 1948-68 and much of the progress in those years, including the rebuilding of kennels, was due to his organisation. Following changes to the ownership of Wye College in 2000, the Hunt became independent from the College. In January 2001, 47 hounds were stolen from kennels. The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) claimed responsibility. Since the theft, the Hunt exists only as a result of the generosity of a large number of packs who drafted hounds to ensure that the Beagles continued hunting. April 2002 saw the introduction of a new constitution and name: WCB � The Wye Beagles.

The country lies in East Kent and is bounded on the west by the Pevensey Marsh Beagles and Bolebroke Beagles and on the north and east by the Blean Beagles. The terrain varies from the chalk grassland of the North Downs to the orchards and hop gardens of the Weald and the dykes of Romney Marsh.
