From the traditions of the Indian Princely States and earlier, the sporting pig-sticking of British India and ‘the Raj’, and hound driven hunting in Europe we have gained a wonderful history of boar hunting and some magnificent buttons to go with it. There are many boar hunts whose buttons don’t feature the animal itself, but here are just a few examples of those that do.
The Calcutta Tent Club.
The Meerut Tent Club. (Rather worn I’m afraid, but at least it means it saw ‘action’!
The Poona Hunt.
The Sirdar (or Sirdar’s) Hunt.
The Pakshi (Packsey) Hunt.
The particularly impressive and rare Baghdad Boar Hunt.
Rallye de Mimizan (Landes, France)
Migliarino (Tuscany. Italy)
Vautrait Piqu’avant Bretagne (Brittany, France) Note: The Breton language.
These are just a few. Do you have any you can add? BHD would be delighted to include your contributions.
