Here are some lovely 19th century hunt buttons from the USA. A full ‘dress’ set of Mr Riddle’s.
According to ‘Great Breeders and Their Methods‘, Samuel Riddle’s hounds descended from the pack Gen. Lafayette presented to General George Washington after the Revolutionary War ( aka The American War of Independence). Riddle bred them not only for their speed and conformation, but also for their unique music. If I’m reading it correctly, the hounds were eventually drafted into the Rose Tree Hunt and were well prized.
