About the County Clare Hunt:

First established in 1890, the County Clare Hunt is a worldwide renowned pack. Steeped in hunting traditions and history, the County Clare Hunt is based on the West Coast of Ireland. Originally designated as harriers the County Clare Hunt then assumed the dual mandate of Foxhound’s and Harriers in the 1980’s and continues to hunt in green. The founding Master was Major Hickman of Fenloe House, also a great racing man. Fenloe continued its great racing connection under the ownership of Tim Costello who produced 5 Gold Cup winners – including Best Mate. The current Huntsman is Patrick Considine, who hails from the famous Spancilhill in Co. Clare. Patrick served his time as Whipper-in with the County Clare Hunt, before
then departing his native county, to whip hounds to Huntsman Ryan Carvill in South Tyrone for 2 seasons before returning to take up office the county pack. Now in his third season, Patrick has an ambitious breeding program in place and expects to have mostly home bred pack next season. The current pack stand at 35 couple. The County Clare Hunt Kennels are situated in the picturesque village of Drumquin, Co. Clare which is beautifully positioned on the Shannon Estuary. The County Clare Hunt meet on Thursday’s and Sunday’s and hunt over vast country crossing everything from the famous County Clare walls to ditches, drains and hedges.
