Set in seven acres of its own glorious wilderness, our back garden is 365 square miles of open moorland – footpaths and bridleways stretching in every direction from our garden gate. Located at the end of a dead end lane, wild Dartmoor ponies neighing over our wall, salmon and trout fishing 100 yards away, river swimming just a five minute stroll – we couldn’t be more rural!
Wydemeet is furnished for family and friends to relax in, offering sumptuous cosy comfort of the highest quality. Our two huge en-suite bedrooms, SuperKing or Twin, have recently been upgraded to a ‘Jane Austen Romantic’ style, in complete sympathy with the architecture, location and mood of the house.
We aim to provide the sort of friendly, warm, relaxed atmosphere of the best country house hotel. Often you will be our only guests, which means we can lavish attention on you – or leave you to your own privacy if you prefer.
Check in and check out times are relaxed. Treat the house as your own, and come and go as you like. Pop your champagne in our fridge, and let us look after your damp, muddy clothes. Pore over maps with us for the best walks and beauty spots and to see where you’ve hunted, all completely off the beaten track. Relax in the hot tub, explore the large garden, or investigate our six acre field full of wild flowers.
Luxury Hunting Breaks
Packages include one, or four day’s hunting, with a variety of Dartmoor’s hunts, or two days’ guided rides across the moor. Few horses can cope with the challenges of hunting Dartmoor’s rough terrain; its vast open spaces, and sudden appearances of lambs and foals popping out from behind rocks. You will be twinned with an impeccably mannered and turned out, fit, safe, agile, quality hunter, who is perfectly at home with the worst that Dartmoor can throw at him! You will need to be an experienced and competent rider with a very secure seat to stay put!
You will have exclusive use of Wydemeet – a private, large, comfortable home, nestled in the heart of remotest Dartmoor, central to all four moorland fox hunts. Built 100 years ago as a hunting lodge, from granite hewn from the garden, Wydemeet offers the best rated accommodation on high Dartmoor.
Return home from a long day in the saddle to tea and crumpets in front of a roaring log fire, four course candlelit dinners in the elegant dining room, huge, quality SuperKing-size Double and Twin en-suite bedrooms, and rest your aching limbs in the hot tub, as you gaze up at the moon and stars above.
